The Mac Edgerton family, consisting of Mac, Wanda, Travis and Carter, farm 200 acres of family land in the Mt. Vernon community of Rutherford County. The farm is operated to maintain the idea of a family farm concept. Some of the farm goes back to a Land Grant from the King of England. The remainder has been acquired in recent years. A majority of the farm is in pasture. The Cane Creek valley bottom land is used for the high value crops. Some areas are devoted to forestry. This family has been attached to the land all their lives, Mac actually began farming on his own as a high school junior in 1966 using family resources and rented land. The farm has Angus cattle, several breeds of sheep, one mule, one horse, free range hens, vegetables and field crops (corn, tobacco and sometimes soybeans). The farm provides a Summer CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program from June through September. Edgerton Farms exhibits sheep throughout the Eastern US. You can catch the show string at many fairs, Summer and Fall.
