Jeff and Charlene Searcy started farming for the Farmers Fresh Market almost four years ago when executive director Tim Will approached them in their field and asked them to join. The experience has opened up a new side of the farming world and they now grow crops they never would have otherwise.
Jeff farms several crops commercially, but Charlene manages to grow about 70 specialty items on their 75 acres.
The Searcys live in Jeff’s childhood home. He grew up working with his father, who farmed the traditional way, using horses. In the 1970s, Jeff began to farm commercially with his father. Charlene was raised on a dairy farm nearby and has also farmed her whole life. They are helped by their three boys - Zach, AJ, and Jared- and several hired workers.
