Susan and Marshall Brooks garden with a philosophy of sustainability. Cabin Creek Farm is located near Lake Lure, across the street from the pumpkin farm where Susan’s mother grew up. Marshall was raised in West Virginia, where he absorbed some gardening techniques as a young boy. Susan also had a garden growing up. The two of them got back into growing after they were married and have kept gardens since, although they have only recently began selling their produce.
Susan focuses on cultivating herbs, such as basil, marjoram and thyme. They grow standard vegetables like peppers and tomatoes, and are also starting to experiment with kohlrabi, kale, Swiss chard, and other specialty items. They are enjoying expanding their garden and learning what grows best.
